Apple's iPhone Xr was the best-selling smartphone of 2019, according to research firm Omida. The low-cost flagship, which was launched alongside the iPhone Xs series in 2018, recorded over 46 million shipments last year to outsell every other handset in the market. To recall, the iPhone Xr featured an iPhone X-inspired design and offered flagship gesture-based experience on an LCD display.
iPhone 11 was the second best-selling phone of 2019
Last year, Apple shipped 46.3 million units of the Xr, which is more than double (23.1 million) the shipments it recorded in 2018. The iPhone 11 took the second spot with a total shipment of 37 million units. Meanwhile, Samsung's mid-range Galaxy A10 (30.3 million units shipped), Galaxy A50 (24.2 million), and Galaxy A20 (23.1 million) featured in the top 10.
14.7 million 5G smartphones were shipped in 2019
Further, according to Omdia, a total of 14.7 million 5G smartphones were shipped last year, representing 1.1% of the market. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G Plus recorded 2.6 million shipments to top the list, followed by Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G (2.5 million).

The iPhone Xr sports a single 12MP (f/1.8, OIS) wide-angle camera with 5x digital zoom, and a Quad-LED flash. The primary camera supports Smart HDR, Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting and 4K video recording at up to 60fps. Up front, it has a 7MP (f/2.2) camera.
