iPhone X, iPhone 8 fast charging feature will cost extra
Apple has introduced three smartphones this time - iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. All these phones, now thankfully, have wireless charging. However, that's not the only updated charging feature in these models. These iPhones also support fast charging, a feature that's offered in most of the standard devices out there for free. However, this feature in Apple comes at a cost.
Here's the problem
This fast charging feature can only be used by an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X user if he/she buys a charger and a cable separately. This is because Apple is not going to provide a fast charging cable out-of-the-box along with iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X. Something that's free on other phones is going to cost you here.
How much is it?
To get fast charging, you'll have to buy a high-power charger and a USB-C to Lightning cable. Apple is selling the 29W USB-C charger on Amazon India for Rs. 5,500 and the cable has an average price tag of Rs. 1,500. So you'd have to spend around Rs. 7,000 more in addition to the price of the iPhone for an otherwise common feature.
That doesn't sound fair
In India iPhone X is priced at Rs. 89,000 for 64GB variant and Rs. 1,02,000 for 256GB variant and Apple can't give a simple charger and cable along with it. Same goes for iPhone 8, whose 64GB variant is priced at Rs. 64,000 and 256GB variant at Rs. 77,000. iPhone 8 Plus 64GB and 256GB are priced at Rs. 73,000 and Rs. 86,000, respectively.
Corporate greed?
Many will argue that if one is paying an exorbitant amount for the phone, a little extra wouldn't hurt or that soon third party companies will come with cheaper chargers. It's not the price but the principle. Apple is already late in introducing fast charging and now it's asking people to pay extra for something that usually comes for free. That doesn't sound right!
