Apple increases iPhone prices in India: Here are the details
Apple has officially increased the prices of its iPhones and Apple Watches in India. While the prices of different iPhone models have seen an increase up to 8.3%, Apple Watch models will now cost 3.6% more. The news comes in response to the Indian government's earlier announcement of increasing customs duty on mobile phones. Here's more on it.
Customs duty on mobile phone increased from 15% to 20%
On February 1, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that customs duty on mobile phone import will be increased from 15% to 20%. Since Apple imports over 80% of its smartphones, the announcement resulted in the company increasing iPhone prices to maintain profit margins. Last December too, when import duty on smartphones was increased to 15% from 10%, iPhone prices in India were increased.
iPhone X prices increased to Rs. 95,390 from Rs. 92,430
While the price of iPhone 6s (32GB) has increased to Rs. 42,900 from Rs. 41,550, iPhone 7 (32GB) will cost Rs. 52,370, up from Rs. 50,810. The price of iPhone 8 (64GB) has increased to Rs. 67,940 from Rs. 66,120, and of iPhone 8 Plus (64GB) to Rs. 77,560 from Rs. 75,450. iPhone X will be sold at Rs. 95,390 instead of Rs. 92,430.
Apple Watch prices see a 3.6% hike in India
As for the Apple Watch models, the price hike is quite prominent. The price of Apple Watch Series 3 GPS (38mm) will be increased to Rs. 32,380 from Rs. 29,900, and the Apple Watch Series 3 GPS (42mm) will now cost Rs. 34,410 instead of Rs. 31,900. The revised prices are also applicable for Apple Watch's Nike+ edition.
Price of iPhone SE remains unchanged
Apple hasn't changed the price of its iPhone SE, which keeps steady at Rs. 26,000 for the 32 GB variant and Rs. 35,000 for the 128 GB variant. Since May 2017, it is being assembled in India and is exempt from the custom duty hike.
