Anthropic appoints Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger as Chief Product Officer
AI startup Anthropic has appointed Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram and personalized news app Artifact, as its first Chief Product Officer. In his new role, Krieger will oversee product engineering, management, and design efforts. His responsibilities also include promoting Claude, Anthropic's generative AI tech to a broader audience. Additionally, Krieger will also be responsible for the company's enterprise services, subscriptions, and software.
Krieger's journey: From Instagram to Anthropic
Krieger left Instagram in 2018 after its acquisition by Meta (then Facebook) for $1 billion. He later co-founded Artifact, a news app that aggregates and suggests news topics, articles, and authors while allowing users to like and comment on content. This venture was recently acquired by Yahoo for an undisclosed amount. Now, Krieger is set to bring his expertise in developing intuitive products and user experiences to Anthropic.
Anthropic targets consumer market amid AI advancements
Krieger's appointment comes as Anthropic aggressively targets the consumer market. This strategic move follows recent demonstrations by OpenAI of a more conversational experience for its AI-powered chatbot platform ChatGPT, and major upgrades to Google Gemini chatbot. In the past year, Anthropic has raised nearly $8 billion, with Amazon and Google as primary investors. The company is also rumored to be partnering with Apple on its efforts.
