Glance partners with Google Cloud to develop AI solutions
What's the story
Leading consumer internet firm Glance has announced a strategic alliance with Google Cloud.
The collaboration will create generative AI (GenAI) solutions for smartphones enabled by Glance for millions of users around the globe.
The partnership will leverage Google's advanced AI models to develop consumer-focused applications, with the goal of enhancing user experience on smartphone lock screens and ambient TV screens.
Separately, the company received additional backing from Google—an existing investor. However, neither Glance nor Google have revealed the financial details.
User impact
Glance's global user base set to benefit from partnership
Glance already has a global customer base of over 450 million Android-based smartphones, with an active user base of around 300 million in India, Indonesia, Japan, the US, etc.
The partnership with Google Cloud will take the services offered by Glance to a whole new level.
The company plans to integrate news, sports, games, entertainment, fashion and shopping into lock screen experiences using GenAI.
Tech integration
Google Cloud's Gemini and Imagen to power Glance services
To meet its service enhancement goals, Glance will leverage Google Cloud's Gemini intelligence capabilities and Imagen's image generation capabilities through Vertex AI.
One of the applications in the works is a GenAI-powered commerce feature for the lock screen. With this groundbreaking feature, users can upload their images, which are then analyzed to learn about their interests and preferences.
Feature rollout
Glance's GenAI feature enables personalized user experiences
The GenAI feature by Glance lets users generate personalized images putting them in relevant contexts. These images can then be used as lock screen wallpapers.
Plus, users can make real-time purchase decisions directly from their lock screens.
The innovative feature was tested in the US with nearly 100,000 users and included collaborations with various US retailers and telecom service providers.
Growth strategy
Glance's ambitious growth plans backed by Google Cloud partnership
Naveen Tewari, founder and CEO of InMobi & Glance, said their mission is to inspire users through discovery-led experiences powered by AI.
He said he wants Glance to become the world's largest consumer tech platform, reaching a billion screens by 2028.
Tewari stressed that the partnership with Google Cloud is key to making that happen.
Product launch
Glance AI set to revolutionize smartphone and TV screens
The partnership announcement comes just as Glance gears up to launch 'Glance AI' in the US. The platform, powered by GenAI, aims to provide immersive discovery experiences on smartphone lock screens and TV ambient screens.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI technologies and said he was excited about Glance leveraging Google Cloud's advanced GenAI technologies to build groundbreaking apps.
