After 2-year delay, Infosys gives joining dates to 1,000 freshers
Infosys, a leading global IT services company, has finally issued joining dates to over 1,000 engineering graduates. The freshers had been waiting for more than two years for their onboarding process to commence. On Monday, they received emails from the firm confirming their joining date as October 7. "Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the Company will be October 07, 2024," read an email from Infosys's talent acquisition team.
NITES's intervention led to resolution
The announcement follows a report by ET highlighting the concerns of around 1,500 students from the April 2022 batch. These students had offer letters but were seeking clarity on their job prospects after completing two rounds of pre-training in July and August. Harpreet Singh Saluja, President at IT employee union NITES, expressed his satisfaction over this development. He stated if Infosys fails to honor this commitment, they will not hesitate to organize a protest in front of the Infosys office.
Delayed onboarding impacted 2,000 engineering graduates
Since April 2022, approximately 2,000 engineering graduates have experienced delayed onboarding after getting offer letters from Infosys. The offers were for system engineers (SE) and digital SE roles with annual packages ranging from ₹3.2-3.7 lakh. In June this year, NITES filed a complaint with the Labour and Employment Ministry against Infosys, over the delayed onboarding that left several students jobless and anxious.
Infosys's CEO assures all selected candidates will join
Infosys's CEO Salil Parekh, in an interview with PTI, assured that all selected candidates will join the company. His comments came after NITES's complaint and public outcry by students, against the delayed onboarding. In August, after two pre-training rounds, Infosys gave a joining date of September 2 to only about 115 students while others remained uncertain about their job prospects.
