IndiGo to add 3 more planes amid European expansion
What's the story
India's leading domestic airline, IndiGo, has announced plans to expand its fleet by leasing three Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic.
The move comes as part of the airline's strategy to commence European operations by mid-2025.
Currently, IndiGo operates two Boeing 777 widebody aircraft on a wet lease from Turkish Airlines, servicing routes between Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul.

1st Boeing 787-9 to serve Delhi-Bangkok route
Earlier this month, IndiGo revealed a deal to lease one Boeing 787 from Norse Atlantic Airways.
The first of these aircraft is scheduled for delivery and will commence operations on the Delhi-Bangkok route from March 1, 2025.
The other planes are likely to come to India in H2 2025 and will operate long-haul routes from India under a damp lease arrangement.
Lease terms
IndiGo and Norse Atlantic's damp lease agreement
The agreement for the three aircraft is initially for six months, extendable up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals.
Under this, Norse Atlantic will provide the aircraft and its maintenance, while IndiGo will take care of crew and insurance.
Both firms have expressed their commitment to further extend this partnership and explore additional opportunities.

Once all four Boeing 787 aircraft are delivered, IndiGo's fleet will have six widebody planes, including four Boeing 787s and two Boeing 777s. This will be part of the airline's 355-strong fleet.
The airline is expected to lease two more 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic in the coming months.
Apart from leasing, IndiGo has a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft with an option for 70 more.
