Indian stock market investors richer by ₹110.5L crore in 2024
Indian investors have witnessed a significant increase in their wealth this year, with a surge of ₹110.57 lakh crore. This substantial growth is attributed to an exceptional rally in the stock market, where benchmark indices have broken numerous records. The market capitalization of BSE-listed companies has risen to ₹474.86 lakh crore, marking a new high for the year on September 27 at ₹477.93 lakh crore.
Sensex records significant growth
The Sensex has experienced a substantial increase of 16.64% or 12,026.03 points in 2024, providing investors with impressive returns. The benchmark reached its highest ever level of 85,978.25 points on September 27 this year. Santosh Meena from Swastika Investmart Ltd, attributes this market rally to strong domestic liquidity and solid economic fundamentals in India.
Midcap and smallcap indices outperform in 2024
Despite selling pressure from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), the Indian equity markets have reached record highs. Meena noted, "The midcap and smallcap indices outperformed and several stocks turned into multibaggers, rewarding retail investors handsomely." The BSE midcap index has surged by 34.32% or 12,645.24 points this year, while the smallcap index soared by 34.62% or 14,777.09 points.
Sensex surpassed historic milestones in September
The 30-share BSE benchmark crossed the 83,000-level for the first time on September 17, and surpassed the historic 84,000-mark on September 20. It further climbed above the 85,000-level on September 25. These milestones highlight a period of significant growth for Indian investors, and underscore the strength of India's equity markets amid global financial fluctuations.
