Modi government to financially support waste recycling start-ups
The Indian government has announced its commitment to financially support waste recycling start-ups. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav made this declaration during a Beach Cleanup Campaign at Juhu beach in Mumbai, on International Coastal Clean-up Day. The minister emphasized that the Central government will provide one-time financial assistance to these start-ups, as part of its broader environmental strategy.
Aim for broader environmental strategy
Yadav highlighted the government's broader environmental strategy, which includes energy and water conservation, banning single-use plastic, and promoting healthy lifestyles. He also underscored the importance of proper e-waste disposal. "Our focus will be on saving energy, water, banning single-use plastic and stopping wastage of food," Yadav said during his speech at the event.
Maharashtra CM emphasizes coastal cleanliness for tourism
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also attended the event, highlighted the state's extensive 720km-long coastline. He emphasized that maintaining its cleanliness could significantly enhance tourism. Shinde noted that many countries' economies are heavily dependent on tourism, implying a similar potential for Maharashtra if its coastal areas are well-maintained. The ongoing cleanliness drive in Mumbai will continue until October 2.
