    Bengaluru's next epic service: Diesel-on-demand

    What's the story

Bengalureans have a new doorstep service: they can now have diesel delivered at home with just a phone call or online booking.

Mypetrolpump, a one-year-old start-up, started trials on June 15 with three delivery vehicles with carrying capacity of 950L each.

Till now, they have delivered over 5,000L of diesel to schools as well as private citizens.

    Operations

How much will it cost you?

Up to 100L, the delivery charge is a fixed Rs. 99; beyond that, there's an additional Re. 1/L.

Presently, the start-up has about 20 customers including 16 schools.

The firm has brought in specially-designed vehicles for delivery. Since they carry high-risk substances, they have been earthed. They are also fitted with metres, filtering systems and anti-siphoning systems.

But what about safety and legality?

This comes less than two months after Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the entry of petrol and diesel on e-commerce platforms.

He had said these "mini petrol pumps" on wheels would make life easier for many. He also assured such services will be vetted by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization.

Mypetrolpump too has obtained all necessary licenses from the organization.

Petrol too in our plans, says founder

32-year-old founder Ashish Gupta, an IIT-Dhanbad graduate, gave up his Rs. 160,000 per annum job and launched Mypetrolpump with his own funds.

About petrol, he says, "Petrol is used only in bikes and cars, but diesel is used for power, in industries, by large vehicles and for farming…. We will be offering petrol in the future."

The company is now looking to raise funds.
