IKEA wants women to pee on its ad. Here's why
Known for quirky ads, IKEA has come up with arguably its most controversial yet. It wants women to pee on a magazine advertisement for a new crib to avail discount. The interactive, published in Swedish women's magazine Amelia, has a pregnancy test embedded. It reveals the discounted price if a woman is found pregnant. Read on for more.
'Peeing on this ad may change your life'
The interactive, which is essentially a home pregnancy test, was developed in association with Swedish ad agency Akestam Holst and Mercene Labs. It has a luring title that says, "Peeing on this ad may change your life." On peeing, if the result is positive, the would-be mother can avail a discount of approx. Rs. 3,910 on a crib that originally costs about Rs 7,780.
Twitter is disgusted, slams the ad for its grossness
The advertisement has got people talking across the globe. Twitter, however, is less than pleased. "No, @Ikea. No one wants to pee on a magazine ad to get a coupon code. Just no", tweeted a user named Tricina. Another called Alicia posted: "All the respect for IKEA for putting out free pregnancy tests but like... Y'all couldve done it in a more sanitary way."
