Hotstar creates world record during IPL 2018 Final
Indian digital and mobile entertainment platform Hotstar set a global live-streaming record during Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 11's final match which was broadcast on May 27, 2018. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) v/s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match attracted a staggering 10.7 million concurrent viewers to the platform, claims Hotstar's owner Star India. It was the 5th time Hotstar streamed the annual tournament live.
The feat achieved during the final moments of the match
For most of the match, Hotstar was able to attract around 5-6 million people. However, as the match approached its final moments, the viewership at the platform spiked, crossing the 10-million mark. With the new feat, Hotstar broke its own record of most users (8.2 million) which it had set during the tournament's 1st qualifier. The 1st qualifier was also between CSK and SRH.

The final 30 deliveries of the match witnessed 8 boundaries- 2 sixes and 6 fours. The 17th over brought celebrations to the CSK camp with Shane Watson hitting his IPL career's fourth century and this season's second. Watson hit the ton off just 51 balls.
Hotstar is India's largest streaming platform
Even before the start of this year's IPL, Hotstar was already India's largest streaming platform. The digital platform has reportedly achieved subscription revenues of around Rs. 100 crore. According to reports, Hotstar earned around Rs. 350 crore in advertising revenues during the tournament, making this year's season the most profitable so far.
