Meet Giana, an 8-year-old Texan artist taking Instagram by storm
If one was to list all the cool+talented Instagram kids, Giana would make it to the top bracket. The 8-year-old Texan of Filipina-Mexican origin is quite the rage on Instagram for her street fashion and recreating magazine ads of runway models using freehand drawing and colors. At 6, she had her first solo art show in Seattle, displaying her 40+ freehand pieces. Here's all about her.
What makes the child prodigy stand out?
Popularly known as Dear Giana, she had discovered her signature style three years ago. She slices down a magazine image of a model from middle and completes the other half via freehand drawing. When she was 5, her mother gave her some colors and a magazine to keep her occupied. When she checked on little Giana next, she was surprised by her artistic streak.
She draws only after school and on weekends
Realizing that she was gifted, Giana's parents armed her with stationary, color supplies and encouragement to help her hone her craft. Giana draws only after school and on weekends. Therefore, every piece takes her several days to complete. After choosing an image, she cuts it in half, pastes it onto a sheet and begins drawing the other side. It isn't complex, but still brilliant.
Giana wants to create things out of paper
Her favorite artist is Kaws, model Kaia Gerber, and designer Jeremy Scott. As she is growing up, Giana is expanding beyond street fashion and sketching. She says she wants to create things from paper. She recently made the Binder-Clip Bag using just paper, paint, tape and markers. Whatever be her endeavors, Giana's appeal lies in her uncomplicated, refreshing take on the beauty of fashion.
