Google plans to double its headcount in India
According to reports, online giant Google is planning to double its workforce in India this year. This added headcount is owing to the fact that it now intends to fight against Amazon and Microsoft for the cloud business supremacy in the country. Although the exact number is not known, it's certain that this will be a mass hiring drive. Here's more about it.
The focus is now on India
Mohit Pande, country head - India, Google Cloud, said to ET that the firm is building its go-to market stratgey, which will span across segments and industries. This mass recruitment will not be a one-time hiring. As the firm moves ahead, it has plans to double its team again. India's public cloud services market will grow approximately 38% in 2017, says research firm Gartner.
It's a huge market with potential
Over the past three years, Google has shelled out around $30 billion on its cloud platform infrastructure and the firm will finally open its first cloud region in India this year. An industry that can potentially be worth $1.81 billion, is vastly untapped in nature and has now made Google interested in increasing its manpower and catering to it.
A proper ecosystem in India
Pande cited that India is not only a large market but also a strategic market as well for the firm and now it'll witness heavy investments. Not only for opening up a cloud region but Google will also invest in sales, marketing, customer engineering, professional services and partner network. Building up a sound ecosystem in India is now an integral part of Google's strategy.
What's in the offing?
Currently, Google has 10 cloud regions across the world and seven more, including India, are being made. Google Cloud enterprise is comprised of its cloud platform, Google Maps for firms that rely on location-based services, Android devices for business and G Suite applications for workplace productivity. Google is also relying heavily on its AI and machine learning prowess to stay ahead in the competition.
