Google announces layoffs in Python, Dart, and Flutter divisions
Google, the US tech giant, has confirmed layoffs within its Python, Dart, as well as Flutter divisions. This decision follows a previous dismissal of around 50 employees due to dissent and misconduct. However, the current layoffs are part of a larger company restructuring, aimed at improving operational efficiency. The exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed by Google.
Company sheds light on restructuring
Google's Spokesperson, Alex García-Kummert, provided insight into the company's decision. He stated, "We're responsibly investing in our company's biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead." The strategy involves making changes to become more efficient, and align resources with product priorities throughout 2023 and 2024. García-Kummert also highlighted that this restructuring aims to reduce bureaucracy, and provide employees more opportunities to work on innovative advances.
Google's assistance plan for laid-off employees
Google has committed to assisting the laid-off employees in finding new roles, either within the company or elsewhere. To note, most of the axed workers, belong to teams dealing with programming languages. These teams have not been completely eliminated.
No mass layoffs in 2024
In the first four months of this year (January to April), hundreds of Google employees have lost their jobs. Earlier, Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed the workers that in 2024, the job cuts will be done in phases. This will be unlike last year, when 12,000 employees were laid off in a mass cull.
