Flipkart is reinventing its back-end technology by infusing Artificial Intelligence
For any successful business, and especially in an e-commerce space, back-end technologies must scale proportionally with the fast-growing demands. To achieve this, Flipkart has embarked on a program called "Continuous Platformisation". Flipkart's program aims to provide its technologists the back-end products/tool that can support its unparalleled business growth. Here's how it is doing it.
Understanding Flipkart's 'Continuous Platformisation'
'Continuous Platformisation' program is Flipkart's way to integrate and implement technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into their existing back-end technology framework, but with ease as their teams constantly develop new products. Co-founder and executive chairman, Sachin Bansal, is leading "AI For India" - an internal unit which works to infuse AI and ML at the core of Flipkart's business.
Flipkart's need to revamp its back-end tech
Flipkart's "Continuous Platformisation" program, started in 2016, was developed to counter the after-effects of back-end issues the e-commerce giant faced during its Big Billion Day sales when their platforms crashed due to high load. After careful consideration about the ideal product, and being mindful of the massive scale that Flipkart would require, this program was set into action.
Flipkart shoppers may notice a smoother shopping experience
"The programme will bring in more stability to the platform, reduce the number of bugs and enable faster roll-out of newer features, which will in turn boost a customer's experience," said Utkarsh B, principal architect of Continuous Platformisation.
