Again, J&K missing from Indian map in FIFA 20
EA Sports' FIFA 20 gaming title is out and it's grabbing headlines not for its life-like animations and engaging gameplay, but for showing the map of India wrong. According to photos circulating on social media, the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is missing from the map of India in the latest installment of the popular football video game. Here's more on this matter.
FIFA 20's India map has no mention of J&K
The international community has, on numerous occasions, depicted the state of Jammu and Kashmir incorrectly by not showing the regions occupied by Pakistan and China. But that's because many view the LOC and LAC as de facto borders. However, EA Sports' omission is more concerning considering in FIFA 20, the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is missing from the map of India.
The wrong map was spotted in Squad Battles section
The maps of countries can be seen in Squad Battles of the Ultimate Team. But considering your opponents in this category refresh every 12 hours or so and are randomized, the chances of seeing this wrong map aren't very high.
Misrepresenting India's border is punishable by law
Notably, according to The Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1990, "Whoever publishes a map of India, which is not in conformity with the maps of India as published by the Survey of India, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both." Whether EA Sports will face any legal consequence remains to be seen.
Surprisingly, EA Sports has committed this error before also
According to reports, EA Sports has omitted J&K from the Indian map on previous occasions also. In fact, FIFA 20 carries the same 'misrepresented' India map that was present on the FIFA 18 and FIFA 19 releases. And for the FIFA 18 version, an online petition to correct the map was signed by over 1,200 supporters. Once is a mistake, twice is a choice?
