5 points to consider before getting a Jio GigaFiber connection
Jio GigaFiber, Reliance's much-awaited Fiber To The Home (FTTH) service, has been delayed owing to last mile connectivity issues. The service was announced in August last year and has been in the testing phase since then. In case you are looking to get a Jio GigaFiber connection, there are some key things to consider before signing up. Let's take a look.
Jio GigaFiber is available in limited cities only
Jio GigaFiber is currently live on a preview basis in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, etc. and will be expanded to around 1,100 cities once it launches commercially. However, even the preview offer isn't available for all. Currently, Jio is conducting surveys to identify suitable areas and if it selects your location, you will be offered a connection under the free preview offer.
Here's everything to know about the Jio GigaFiber Preview offer
Reliance Jio is offering a Preview Offer wherein eligible users can experience the GigaFiber service for free. Under this offer, subscribers will get 100GB of monthly data at speeds of upto 100Mbps. Further, if you consume the monthly limit, you can get a free top-up of 40GB via MyJio App or Jio.com. Notably, the Preview offer comes with a validity of only 90 days.
Preview offer requires a Rs. 4,500 refundable security deposit
While the preview offer is free, users will have to pay a refundable deposit of Rs. 4,500 for the installation of GigaHub Home Gateway router. Considering GigaFiber is an optic fiber-based service, it works on optical line terminal (OLT) devices rather than regular broadband routers.
GigaHub will also enable Jio TV services and wired landline
Jio GigaFiber will also power Giga TV (set-top box) and wired landline connections. Currently, Jio is offering its employees a Triple Pay plan which provides 100GB of high-speed data, unlimited voice calling, and a complimentary subscription to Jio Home TV as well as Jio Apps. This plan will be extended to other users in the coming days under the Preview offer.
Jio also plans to introduce smart home devices soon
Jio GigaFiber isn't just a standalone broadband service as it looks to encompass an all-in-one solution for broadband, IPTV, landline, and smart home solutions. Talking of smart home solutions, the company is planning to launch a suite of IoT devices such as an audio-video dongle, smart speaker, Wi-Fi extender, and security products such as smoke sensors as well as smart video doorbells.
