'Did nothing, was fired': Musk mocks ex-Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal
What's the story
Elon Musk, the head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump's administration, has publicly criticized Parag Agrawal's tenure as CEO of X (formerly Twitter).
The critique came in response to a user's post on X.
"Parag got nothing done. Parag was fired," Musk stated bluntly in his response.
Past conflict
Musk's demand echoes past confrontation
The user's post on X alluded to an old feud between Musk and Agrawal, where the former had asked the latter about his weekly achievements.
The confrontation was viewed as a major disagreement that resulted in Agrawal's firing from X by Musk.
The same question was recently asked by DOGE to all US federal employees, requesting them to submit a detailed account of their work week.
New directive
Musk's weekly report request extends to federal employees
The request was sent via email to various agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention among others.
The email asked employees to list "what you accomplished at work last week" in five points and send their copy to their managers.
Leadership change
Musk's takeover of X led to Agrawal's termination
Musk had bought X in 2022 and renamed it from Twitter. One of his first moves as the new owner was firing then-CEO Parag Agrawal.
Reportedly, Agrawal was fired for refusing to block an account on X that Musk wanted blocked.
After his firing, Agrawal and three other former X executives sued Musk for unpaid severance of $128 million.
Fiscal strategy
DOGE's aggressive cost-cutting measures under Musk
Musk's initiative DOGE has been taking aggressive cost-cutting measures. President Trump has given DOGE the power to restrict federal spending in a bid to save $2 trillion.
After his recent order to federal employees, Musk posted on X that he had received several "good responses" and those respondents should be considered for promotions.
