Infosys to recruit 6,000 techies annually for next 2 years
Despite Vishal Sikka's resignation and turbulence over clashes between board members and founders over corporate governance issues, Infosys has announced that it will continue to recruit 6,000 employees per annum for the next two years. The IT-giant has also stepped up recruiting drives in the US and European markets, as it looks to tap opportunities there and tide over visa-related issues.
Similar employment can be expected over the next two years
"...we continue to recruit. This year that just concluded we had a net addition of 6,000 and we expect similar kind of additions over the next 1 or 2 years, depending on the kind of growth you see in the market," said interim CEO Rao.
Infosys's recent employment record
At the end of June 2017, Infosys had a total of 198,553 employees worldwide on its payroll. It did not provide a country-wise employee headcount. During the same quarter, 8,645 new professionals joined Infosys's ranks at a gross level, but its overall headcount fell short by 1,811 people (accounting for attrition numbers). Despite layoffs in the IT sector, Infosys has been stepping up recruitment.
Doing more with less requires quality
Interim Infosys CEO Rao said that only 20-30% of the million plus annual engineering graduates are quality talent. "[This is the number that] we and our competitors focus on...It is a question of doing more with less, how can one be more productive," he added.
Domestic concerns about Infosys' international recruitment drive
Infosys's recruitment drive during the IT layoffs was mostly in international markets. It had announced then that it planned to hire 20,000 people (gross) this year. However, its focus on international markets raised concerns that it would reduce recruitment in India. Infosys said that it prefers a healthy mix of domestic and international workers, and is currently setting up innovation hubs in the US.
