Zomato CEO seeks Chief of Staff, demands ₹20 lakh 'fee'
In a rather unconventional move, Zomato's founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal has announced a job opening for the position of 'Chief of Staff' at his company. Goyal made the announcement through a LinkedIn post where he detailed the unique terms of this role. The chosen candidate will have to pay a "fee" of ₹20 lakh to Zomato, and won't receive any salary in the first year.
Opportunity fee to be donated to charity
The ₹20 lakh "fee" demanded from the future Chief of Staff, will be donated straight to the charity Feeding India. Goyal clarified this in his job posting on LinkedIn, saying "100% of this 'fee' will be paid in the form of a donation directly to Feeding India (if you are offered the role, and you accept it)."
Zomato to match 'fee' with charity donation
In a show of commitment, Zomato has pledged to match the "fee" with a charitable donation of its own. The company will donate an amount equivalent to the Chief of Staff's salary, ₹50 lakh, to a charity chosen by the selected candidate. This move is designed to demonstrate that the company's intentions are not financially motivated.
Salary discussions to begin from 2nd year
The chosen candidate for Zomato's Chief of Staff position will start drawing a salary from their second year of work. The exact amount, which Goyal assures will be more than ₹50 lakh, will be discussed at the start of this period. This unorthodox method is designed to lure candidates who are more interested in learning than money.
Role expectations and application process
The Chief of Staff will be expected to play a pivotal role in the future of Zomato and its associated brands such as Blinkit, District, Hyperpure, and Feeding India. Goyal stressed that he is looking for candidates who are "down to earth" with "zero entitlement." Interested candidates can apply for the role by emailing a 200-word cover letter to d@zomato.com.
