Subscribed to EPFO's ELI scheme? Deadline for UAN activation tomorrow
What's the story
The last date for Universal Account Number (UAN) activation and Aadhaar seeding of bank accounts under Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme in tomorrow i.e. January 15.
Employers are requested to give priority to these tasks, particularly for employees hired in the current fiscal year.
The UAN is a unique 12-digit number given to eligible employees, and its activation is important for availing several online services of Employees's Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
Benefits
UAN activation enables online access to EPFO services
The activation of UAN enables employees to withdraw their Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) funds online, check EPF balance, and update contact details. This is especially crucial for those working in the formal sector.
The ELI scheme, under which this requirement comes, seeks to promote formal-sector employment and ensure direct benefit transfers (DBT) to employees' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Process
How to activate UAN online?
To activate their UAN online, new EPF members need to visit the EPFO Member Sewa portal and click on the 'Activate UAN' link under 'Important Links.'
They would then have to enter details like their UAN, Aadhaar number, date of birth, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
After agreeing to Aadhaar OTP verification and requesting the authorization PIN, they have to enter the OTP received on their registered mobile number to complete activation.
