#Lockdown: Jio to offer free broadband service for 30 days
Last week we reported that Reliance Jio is planning to offer a free 10Mbps broadband connection to new users as part of its #CoronaHaaregaIndiaJeetega initiative. And now, more details about the scheme have come to light. According to The Economic Times, the plan will have a 30-day service period and it will offer unlimited internet access but with high-speed data capped at 100GB.
After FUP limit is reached, speed will drop to 1Mbps
In a bid to ensure that everyone stays connected while at home, Jio has announced this free broadband plan for all the new users where its services are active. The plan will offer 10Mbps of speed for the first 100GB data and thereafter, users will get unlimited access to the internet but at a reduced speed of 1Mbps.
However, users will have to pay for installation
While there will be no charges for accessing the internet, users will have to pay for installation. According to ET, the company will provide a home gateway setup but users will have to pay a security deposit of Rs. 1,500 and an installation charge of Rs. 1,000. The security deposit will be credited back to the user at the time of surrendering the connection.
The free plan will be valid for only 30 days
According to the report, the free broadband connection will have a validity of 30 days. After this period, the services will stop. However, users will have the option to either surrender their connection or opt for other JioFiber plans that start at Rs. 699/month.
Jio has also introduced some offers for prepaid mobile users
Meanwhile, for prepaid mobile users, Reliance Jio has also upgraded its 4G data vouchers to offer more bundled benefits. The Rs. 11, Rs. 21, Rs. 51 and Rs. 101 4G data packs now offer up to 12GB of data and up to 1,000 minutes for non-Jio calls. The telco has also introduced a Rs. 251 plan that provides 2GB data/day for 28 days.
