Computex 2020 postponed, due to COVID-19 outbreak
Computex 2020, one of the biggest computer shows in the world, has been rescheduled. The decision has been taken in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which started from the Chinese city Wuhan and continues to wreak havoc in countries around the world. Now, Computex will take place in September, according to the official notification. Here's more about it.
Rescheduled from June to September
Originally, Computex 2020 was slated to begin from June 2, but the organizers of the event - the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Computer Association (TCA) - have decided to push it to September 28. They also asserted that the conference would now run just for three days instead of the originally planned five-day period.
Move to ensure 'health and safety'
In the statement announcing the postponement, the organizers noted that the decision has been taken for ensuring the "health and safety of exhibitors and visitors, the effectiveness of the exhibition, and maintaining the COMPUTEX brand image." So far, the COVID-19 outbreak has infected over 4 lakh people and killed nearly 19,000 in different countries, including Italy, the US, China and India.
Some launches likely to happen between June 2 and 6
Along with delaying the main event, Computex 2020 organizers also noted that they would host an online conference for some exhibitors between June 2-6. As such, at least some companies that had planned product launches for June would be able to follow that timeline and announce their products on the internet. Typically, we get to see a lot of PC hardware at Computex.
Other events have also been delayed or postponed
While it is surprising that Computex organizers are sure about holding the event by the end of September, the postponement of the conference wasn't completely unexpected. The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to the cancellation/postponement of several events and conferences, including the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Facebook's F8, Google's I/O, E3, and the 2020 Game Developers Conference.
