BSNL users can no longer make free calls on Sundays
What's the story
State-run telecom company BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has announced that it is withdrawing its unlimited Sunday free voice calling offer from all circles across India.
The change will be deployed in all of BSNL's landline and broadband plans and will be effective from February 1, 2018.
It will be applicable to existing customers as well. Here is more on it.
Background
Earlier, users could make landline and mobile calls for free
Earlier in August 2016, BSNL had announced a Freedom Offer which allowed its landline customers to make free unlimited voice calls on Sundays without any extra overall charges.
As part of the offer, customers could make the free calls without any time constraints and to any network they wanted, regardless of it being landline or mobile.
Context
Timings of free voice calling on weekdays already changed
The news comes shortly after another BSNL's announcement adhering to which the company changed the broadband free voice calling timings on weekdays.
While earlier BSNL users could make free calls on weekdays between 9 PM and 7 AM, they can now do so between 10:30 PM to 6 AM.
The two announcements are expected to cost the company its subscribers.
