Boeing and Tata come together for AH-64 Apache
Tata Advanced Systems and US aviation major Boeing announced their joint venture that will make aerostructures for AH-64 Apache attack helicopters (choppers). The joint enterprise will originally create a production centre of excellence to design aerostructures for the AH-64 Apache choppers. It will further compete for supplementary manufacturing work ensembles across Boeing platforms, both defense and commercial.
Tata's foray into weapon delivery with TASL
Founded in 2007, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) is a completely owned auxiliary unit of Tata Sons, which is the holding corporation for the Tata Group. The company whose CEO and MD is Mr Sukaran Singh (from 1 December 2014) "is the lead systems integration company for delivering weapons from the Tata Group to the Indian security forces."
Tata's manufacturing partners
TASL is a manufacturing partner with various global original equipment manufacturers (OEM) including Airbus Group, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.
TASL and Boeing announce strategic aerospace partnership
Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) signed a structure agreement to cooperate in aerospace and defence production and potential integrated systems. The agreement would also enable development opportunities between the two, which would include manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles. This agreement highlighted Boeing's dedication to furthering its aerospace manufacturing footprint in India and provide a boost to India's 'Make in India' program.
Tata's subsidiary alliances with Boeing
Not just TASL, but Tata Group's other subsidiaries have also been engaged in working with Boeing. P-81 long-range anti-submarine combat aircraft were aided by Tata Advanced Materials through the manufacture of "power and mission equipment cabinets and auxiliary power unit door fairings" TAL also manufactured complex floor beams for 787-9 Boeing and provided ground support equipment for the C-17 Globemaster III strategic airlifter.
JV to help Boeing grow in global marketplace
Through the current Joint Venture Boeing hopes to capitalise on India's "industrial capability, innovation and talent" offerings to contribute to Boeing's long-term competitiveness. President and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security Chris Chadwick said that this venture would also further Boeing's future growth in the global marketplace. He further said that Boeing was committed to this journey.
