Bill Gates (68) plans to work for another 20-30 years
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has expressed his desire to continue working for another two to three decades. The 68-year-old tech magnate shared this ambition during an interview with CNBC Make It. He cited the example of Warren Buffett, who at 94, still maintains a six-day work week as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. "My friend Warren Buffett still comes into the office six days a week. So, I hope my health allows me to be like Warren," said Gates.
Ongoing commitments and future aspirations
Gates currently serves as a "Technology Advisor" for Microsoft and dedicates significant time to philanthropic efforts aimed at addressing global issues. These include disease, poverty, climate change, and improving access to healthcare and education. His net worth of $128 billion, as estimated by Forbes, is largely directed toward funding potential solutions for these challenges.
New Netflix docuseries and philanthropic goals
Gates is set to feature in a five-part Netflix docuseries titled What's Next? The Future With Bill Gates, premiering on September 18. The series will focus on the same global issues that he is passionate about addressing. As the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation approaches its 25th anniversary next year, Gates remains committed to eradicating diseases like polio and malaria, and halving childhood deaths from five million to 2.5 million.
Work ethic and personal growth
Gates's current work commitment is less intense than during his early career when he was focused on establishing Microsoft as a tech giant. He admitted to CNBC Make It that he used to work without taking weekends or vacations in his 20s. However, over time, Gates has learned the importance of balance and now enjoys leisure activities like playing tennis and reading for up to three hours per day during his time off.
