BHIM app for Android, iOS now supports utility bill payments
Months after announcing a cashback scheme, the government promoted Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app has now added support for utility bill payments within its portal. The feature is currently being rolled out to both iOS and Android versions of BHIM and is available in the latest app version. Here's more about this new feature.
Everything to know about this new feature
This feature can be used to pay bills on-the-go using the BHIM Bill Pay. Users will be also able to save their bill transactions for future references. Currently, the app accepts bill payments for several categories including postpaid mobile, landline, broadband, DTH, electricity, gas, and water bills. To use the feature, go to Transfer Money > Bill Pay > My Bills section.
The BHIM utility bills payment currently supports select service providers
Currently, the BHIM app supports postpaid mobile bill payments for select service providers including Vodafone, Idea, BSNL, and Tata DoCoMo. For broadband bills, the app supports payments for service providers such as Connect Broadband, Hathway, ACT Fibernet and Tikona. The app also accepts landline bills for BSNL, MTNL, and Tata DoCoMo. Further, more service providers are expected to soon join the digital payments platform.
Details about the BHIM app
The easy-to-use BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app was launched by National Payments Corporation of India under Digital India initiative. It uses government-managed UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system. Users can create UPI IDs and link bank accounts to send/receive money, check bank balance, scan-and-pay. Users can make 24x7 inter-bank electronic fund transfers, over-the-counter payments, COD transactions, pay bills etc.
