NPCI launches BHIM 3.0 in India: What changes for you?
What's the story
NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has launched the latest avatar of Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) - BHIM 3.0.
The major upgrade, third since its launch in 2016, is designed to make digital payments easier for the users, businesses, and banks.
The app now supports over 15 Indian languages, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Enhancements
New features for users
Using BHIM 3.0, you can split bills with friends and family for shared payments like rent or group purchases, with instant settlement of payments eliminating manual calculations.
A 'Family mode' allows you to onboard family members, track shared expenses, and assign specific payments, collectively managing finances more efficiently.
Extras
New dashboard and alerts
The revamped app also comes with a new dashboard offering a detailed monthly breakdown of the expenses, automatically categorizing them for easier budgeting.
Users are also kept informed about pending bills, UPI Lite activation, and low Lite balances through 'Action needed alerts.' This way, users stay updated on their financial tasks.
Ajay Kumar Choudhary, Non-Executive Chairman of NPCI, said with BHIM 3.0 they are taking another step toward a more inclusive digital economy.
Merchant benefits
BHIM 3.0 enhances merchant experience
BHIM 3.0 also brings a lot for merchants with the introduction of 'BHIM Vega.'
This would let merchants accept in-app payments, minimizing friction in online transactions by permitting customers to pay directly within the app instead of switching to third-party platforms.
NBSL CEO Lalitha Nataraj said this update is "built for Bharat," prioritizing safety, convenience, and financial empowerment.
BHIM 3.0 will be rolled out in phases with full availability by April 2025.
