BHEL signs ₹11,000cr deal with Adani for supercritical power projects
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a contract worth over ₹11,000 crore from Adani Power Limited (APL) and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Limited (MEL). The agreement, which excludes GST, was signed yesterday and involves the development of three Supercritical Thermal Power projects. This deal signifies a significant stride in India's power infrastructure development, and further cements BHEL's position in the industry.
Contract details and project specifications
The contract includes the provision of essential equipment and supervision of erection and commissioning processes for three major power projects. Each project will have a capacity of 2x800 MW, utilizing advanced Supercritical Technology. The projects are set to be developed at Kawai Phase-II and Kawai Phase-III in Rajasthan, as well as Mahan Phase-III in Madhya Pradesh.
Responsibilities and timelines
BHEL is responsible for supplying a range of equipment including boilers, generators, turbines, and associated auxiliaries as part of this contract. The company will also manage the installation and commissioning of these systems to ensure they meet all operational and performance standards. The completion timeline varies for each project: Kawai Phase-II is tipped to be completed within 49 months, Kawai Phase-III within 52 months, and Mahan Phase-III within 55 months.
Market response and recent achievements
Following the contract announcement, BHEL's share price experienced a surge of over 2% in early trade on Monday. The company's stock reached a high of ₹304 per share on NSE, marking a 2.63% increase from its previous close. Earlier this month, BHEL also secured a 1,600 MW project from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for a coal-based unit in Jharkhand's Koderma district.
