Bengal Summit fetched Rs. 2.2-trillion-worth investment proposals: Mamata Banerjee
The fourth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit has been concluded, and WB CM Mamata Banerjee said it has been "highly successful" as the state bagged a whopping Rs. 2.19-trillion-worth business proposals. She said these investments would create over 20 lakh employment opportunities, adding 110 MoUs have been signed. BGBS is successful as WB is an environmental-friendly and politically-stable state, said Banerjee. Here's more.
"We talk less and work more"
On the second and last day of BGBS, CM Banerjee said: "We like to talk less and work more. West Bengal is converting into Best Bengal. Many foreign countries have expressed their interest in investing in Bengal. Industrialists will get our full cooperation."
Reliance Industries to create a large number of jobs
At the summit, CM Banerjee thanked Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani for the group's Rs. 50-billion-worth investment proposals. She said of the 20 lakh potential employment opportunities, over one lakh would be generated by Reliance Industries itself. She added, "More than one lakh jobs will be created in the telecom industry, going by the investment proposal of RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani."
Adani wants to replicate Gujarat's Mundra port in West Bengal
Adani Group's Pranav Adani said his group wants to replicate Mundra port of Gujarat's Kutch in West Bengal. He said Adani Group manages the "largest number of ports" in India; they want to bring their expertise to West Bengal. He added the group invested Rs. 750cr in WB and wants to double over the next five years; Adani would explore renewable energy-related investments.
Both agriculture and industry need to be developed: Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee said that the West Bengal government believes in the "holistic development" of the society; discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, and religion doesn't exist in the state. She added the state government also believes that if the "down-trodden" are unhappy, other sections also can't be happy. So, they are working on the development of both agriculture and industry.
50% of 2017 business proposals being implemented
On the concluding day of BGBS 2018, Banerjee said 50% of the business proposals received in the 2017 edition of the summit were already in the process of implementation; last year, the state received over Rs. 2.35-trillion-worth investment proposals. According to WB government, the 2016 BGBS edition fetched business proposals worth over Rs. 2.5 trillion and the 2015 edition, over Rs. 2.43 trillion.
Banerjee announces dates of BGBS 2019 edition
CM Mamata Banerjee said BGBS 2018 was "hugely successful" and thanked business delegates, guests, and the state government on social media. She added, "We have to work even harder in the days ahead to fulfill the aspirations and prove that truly Bengal means Business." Also, she announced that the next edition of BGBS would be held on 7 and 8 February in 2019.
