'No sleep, non-stop humiliation': Bajaj Finance manager dies by suicide
A 42-year-old area manager at Bajaj Finance, Tarun Saxena, has died by suicide in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. In a five-page letter addressed to his wife Megha Saxena, he cited extreme work pressure and non-stop humiliation from his seniors as the reasons behind his drastic step. The company has not yet responded to these allegations.
Saxena's job and struggles
Saxena was in charge of collecting EMIs for Bajaj Finance loans in his area. However, he was finding it tough to hit his targets for a bunch of reasons. In his note, he said he was scared of getting fired and confessed that he hadn't had a good night's sleep in 45 days because of the stress. He also claimed that the senior managers were putting him under pressure to reach his targets at any cost, or else just quit.
Final message and family's response
In his suicide note, Saxena mentioned that he and his colleagues had to cough up the EMIs that they couldn't recover from their area. He had flagged these issues to his seniors, but they just wouldn't listen. His cousin Gaurav confirmed that Saxena was being pressured to ramp up loan recovery, and he even named the seniors involved during a video conference.
Saxena's suicide note sparks nationwide conversation
Saxena's death and his letter blaming senior managers have sparked a nationwide conversation about toxic work culture. This comes in the wake of another similar incident involving Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old chartered accountant. Her mother had written a letter to Ernst & Young India Chairman Rajiv Memani, accusing the company of overworking her daughter and neglecting her well-being.
