Amazon Prime monthly subscription introduced at just Rs. 129

    What's the story

E-commerce giant Amazon has quietly introduced a new monthly Amazon Prime subscription plan in India.

Under the new scheme, customers will be able to avail Prime benefits at a monthly fee of Rs. 129 as against the annual membership charge of Rs. 999.

Notably, this monthly plan, which comes with an auto-renew mechanism, seems to be visible to non-prime users only.

    Here's more.

    Details

The new monthly subscription comes with auto-renew feature as default

For this Rs. 129 plan, Amazon is accepting payments via debit and credit cards only, because the new subscription comes with an auto-renew feature. This means your card will be automatically charged to renew your subscription every month.

However, Amazon will notify users three days before the monthly plan is due for renewal so that users can unsubscribe their membership, should they want to.

    Deals to free deliveries

What benefits do you get with Amazon Prime?

With Amazon Prime membership, you get unlimited free one-day/two-day delivery, discounted same-day delivery on eligible items and cashback with No Rush delivery.

You also get a free subscription to Amazon's video and music services - Prime Video and Amazon Music.

Additionally, Prime members also get a 30-min early access to lighting deals and exclusive sales.

    Data

How Prime membership rates in India compare to Prime US

India is a price sensitive market, and Amazon is aware of that. Back in July 2016, Amazon introduced Prime service in India at Rs. 499. A year later, the fee was doubled to Rs. 999/year. In US, however, the company charges $119/year.
