Amazon India onboards over 2,500 artisans, launches 1.5L craft products
Amazon India has announced a significant collaboration with over 45 government emporiums, NGOs, and trade bodies across the country. The primary objective of this initiative is to bridge the gap between artisans and customers, thereby creating economic opportunities for marginalized weaving communities. This move is part of Amazon's broader strategy to support and promote local talent in India.
Regional crafts on Amazon's platform
Through this collaboration, Amazon India now offers over 150,000 products from 25 states, each representing unique regional crafts. The company plans to feature a selection from more than 35 state emporiums including Biswa Bangla, Panthoibi, Garvi Gurjari, and House of Himalayas. This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive online marketplace for diverse Indian handicrafts.
Over 2,500 artisans to sell online
The partnership has successfully onboarded more than 2,500 master weavers, co-operatives, artisans, and government organizations under various ministries such as Textiles, Cottage Industries, and Tribal Welfare. These entities will now have the opportunity to sell their products online via Amazon India's official e-store. This move is expected to significantly boost their market reach and economic prospects on a national scale.
Karigar program to revive indigenous arts
In addition to the new partnership, Amazon continues its annual Karigar program aimed at reviving indigenous arts and crafts. The program offers local sellers a platform to list and sell their merchandise online, reaching a larger consumer base.
