Amazon Canada lists for sale 'distorted Indian map'
E-commerce platform Amazon invited the wrath of the Delhi BJP wing over a distorted map of India being sold on their Canada portal. The wall sticker map left out parts of disputed territories occupied by Pakistan and China. "Amazon.ca is selling distorted Map of India. Its unacceptable. Remove this from ur website & stop selling immediately (sic)," tweeted BJP Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Bagga.
Committed to complete legal compliance, says Amazon
The newly-registered seller DIYthinker listed the sticker map for C$25.35 (roughly $19). DIYthinker also has other products up for sale on the website, including maps of other countries, phone covers and accessories. They don't ship to India. In a statement, Amazon said it is looking into the matter; "we remain committed to complete legal compliance at all times."
Amazon angered Indians several times this year
Amazon has had a rough year; earlier in 2016, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj had demanded an unconditional apology over an Indian flag doormat listed on its Canada website. A few days later, its US portal showed shoes and shoelace charms bearing the tricolor. It also angered Indians when it sold flip-flops with the image of Mahatma Gandhi, and a skateboard with Lord Ganesha's image.
