Reliance Jio GigaFiber: How to register for the service
Reliance Jio's GigaFiber broadband service has been in the news ever since Mukesh Ambani announced Jio's entry into the broadband sector at Reliance's 41st AGM. Since then, GigaFiber has started taking registrations, and has also announced a free preview offer that will see users get 300GB high-speed data for 90 days, capped at 100GB per month. In case you haven't registered, here's a guide.
Things to know before registering for the service
First, it's important to note that even if you register for Jio GigaFiber, you might not get a connection just yet, owing to Reliance's demand-based roll-out policy. That said, registrations can be made on Jio's website or on the MyJio app for free. Then, as and when your locality gets the service, Jio will provide you with its fixed-line fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service.
However, you have to pay a Rs. 4,500 refundable deposit
However, while the preview offer is free, it's worth noting that users will have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 4,500 for the GigaHub Home Gateway router. Since GigaFiber's router is an optical line terminal (OLT) device, regular routers are unlikely to work.
Steps to register for the Jio GigaFiber broadband service
To register, first head to Reliance Jio's website. Once there, wait for the top banner to display Reliance Jio GigaFiber, and then click on the red 'Invite JioFiber Now' button. You'll then be redirected to a page where you have to provide an address. Once done, click on 'Proceed'. Then, enter your name and mobile number, verify it via an OTP, and you're done.
