Airtel downgrades Rs. 97 prepaid pack, offers 500MB data only
Airtel has revised one of its more affordable and popular prepaid packs to reduce the data benefit, but increase the number of bundled free SMSes. As part of the latest revision, the Rs. 97 plan has been downgraded to offer merely 500MB of high-speed data for its entire validity period of 14 days. However, the plan continues to offer unlimited calling benefit. Here's more.
What are the benefits of the revised Rs. 97 plan
As per the revision, the Rs. 97 prepaid pack comes with only 500MB of data as against the 2GB data benefit available earlier. Meanwhile, the number of free SMSes has been increased from 100 per day to 300 for the entire validity period. The plan continues to offer unlimited domestic calling benefit for its validity of 14 days.
This plan was originally launched in 2018 with 1.5GB data
Airtel's Rs. 97 pack was first launched in September last year but not as an unlimited option. It used to offer 350 minutes of domestic calling benefits, 1.5GB of 3G/4G data, and 200 SMSes. However, the plan was soon taken off and was then re-introduced this year with tweaked benefits such as unlimited calling and 2GB of total data benefit.
Recently, Airtel also launched a new Rs. 599 prepaid pack
Notably, earlier this week, Airtel partnered with Bharti AXA Life Insurance to offer a Rs. 599 prepaid pack bundled with free life insurance of Rs. 4 lakh from Bharti AXA. Other benefits include 2GB daily data, unlimited domestic calls and 100 SMSes/day. The recharge pack has an 84-day validity period and the insurance cover continues automatically with every recharge.
The Rs. 599 plan is currently available in select circles
This new prepaid pack of denomination Rs. 599 is currently available to subscribers across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry only. However, its availability will be gradually extended to other regions over the coming months.
