Now, keep international roaming active without paying Airtel
Airtel is doing away with international roaming activation fee for all postpaid and prepaid customers. The move, announced in a mail to customers, follows the lines of Reliance Jio and is aimed at increasing the uptake of international roaming plans. In addition to this, Airtel has also announced new 'smart' roaming packs for customers traveling abroad. Here are the details.
Monthly activation fee of Rs. 99 discontinued
Airtel offers international roaming services to make sure that its customers are able to use their same Indian number while traveling abroad. However, in order to take advantage of this, the customers first need to get international activated on their numbers by paying a monthly fee of Rs. 99. Now, Airtel has waived off these charges, letting customers keep international roaming active.
Here's what Airtel said in its mail
"We believe that staying connected with your loved ones should not be disrupted by borders, which is why starting today, you will no longer have to pay to keep your number active when you are traveling abroad," Airtel said in the mail announcing the move.
However, you'll still need international roaming plan
It is important to note that the company is only waiving off the charges to keep international roaming active. In order to keep using your number, you'll still need an international roaming plan bundled with data, calling benefits. For prepaid users, Airtel's international roaming plans start at Rs. 296, while for postpaid users, the plans start at Rs. 649.
Also, Airtel announced new smart roaming packs
Along with fee wavier, Airtel also announced smart roaming plans for customers traveling abroad. These 'smart' plans will automatically apply to your account when you cross the daily usage limit of an existing plan. This way, even if you don't have an appropriate pack for the trip, there won't be any unexpected surprises in the bill amount.
