Air India stake sale soon, hints Jaitley
Now that two parties have formally expressed interest in buying the national carrier Air India, FinMin Jaitley has hinted that an expeditious decision will soon be taken on its disinvestment. Jaitley and his group of ministers are working on the details of how to go about the disinvestment of the debt-laden airline that's been bleeding government coffers dry for a long time. Here's more.
The government should act on it
Aviation services provider Bird Group plans on acquiring Air India's ground handling subsidiary AIATSL, whereas, Indigo is looking to tap into Air India's international operations. As the Union Cabinet has already given its in-principle approval for strategic disinvestment, all that remains is, for the Centre, to take NITI Aayog's suggestions into consideration and finally get rid of the Maharaja for good.
