#NewsBytesExclusive: This start-up helps you 'try on' clothes virtually
If there is anything that breaks our online shopping experience, it is the element of doubt! We have plenty of questions regarding the fit and appearance of a product, which often stop us from hitting the 'checkout' button. But now, Bengaluru-based BigThinx has a potential solution, a first-of-a-kind app that leverages the power of AI to show how an outfit would look on you.
Lyflike: A way to try on clothes in 3D
Started by Shivang Desai and Chandralika Hazarika, BigThinx's app Lyflike leverages AI and computer vision to generate pretty realistic 3D avatars. Their system uses the images of a person to analyze their exact body measurements and create avatars looking and measuring just like them. These 3D replicas then allow the user to 'try on' clothes and see how it would look on them.
Avatars created from just three shots
When you launch Lyflike, the app will prompt you to upload three photos: a selfie, a front and side shot taken by someone else or in a full-length mirror. Once uploaded, the app's AI calculates all your body measurements and creates an avatar looking like you on the basis of it. In fact, it even recreates your face in 3D for added effect.
Share any outfit that you find interesting
After creating an avatar, you can share the image of any piece of clothing from stores like Amazon or Myntra directly into the app. As you share, Lyflike's AI will recreate that particular item as a 3D garment to dress up your avatar, giving you an idea of how that outfit would look and fit on you.
Lyflike shows appropriate size to help with decision-making, says Shivang
"It also tells you what size you'll need based on your measurements, so you can how it looks and fits on you and then you can decide whether you want to buy or not and which size you should take," Shivang told NewsBytes.
Plus, you can 'try' celebrity outfits
In the Lyflike app, you will also find an option to upload photos to dress up your avatar. This, as Shivang explained, isn't just used for trying outfits from online stores but also from the real world. "The idea is that you can use any image," he says, noting that you can recreate clothing from celebrity pictures or from a friend's wardrobe.
'Shop window' is the ultimate goal
Lyflike's core functionality would eventually be used to redirect users to places where they could buy the recreated product or something very similar. "The final part of the chain is to allow you to shop window," Shivang quipped. "Once you have digitally recreated any piece of clothing, we will show you visually similar (or even same) clothing that is available with a partner brand."
AI is the key differentiator
Speaking on the competition in this arena, Shivang said that their AI is the key differentiator. Other firms engaged in digitization of outfits use human modelers which is time-consuming and costly. Meanwhile, their AI engine can digitize 50-80% of entire collections in a few hours.
Now, BigThinx is in talks with partners
As of now, BigThinx is in talks with a few brands to offer recommendations for user-uploaded products. These featured 'partner brand' recommendations will also define the revenue model of the company; it will basically work on a commission-on-sale model. Currently, the app is available free for Android users with no ads whatsoever and the iOS version is in the pipeline.
"You'll know right size and place to buy"
"We'll point to where you can buy the product and what size you'll need," Shivang emphasized. "Thereafter, you can purchase that size with a high degree of confidence that you're getting the right thing and it'll look exactly the way it does on your avatar."
