Adani Group establishes subsidiary in China for supply chain solutions
Adani Group, a leading Indian conglomerate, has established a new subsidiary in China. The primary focus of this venture will be to provide supply chain solutions and project management services, as stated in a recent regulatory filing. The subsidiary, named Adani Energy Resources (Shanghai) Co. (AERCL), was incorporated on September 2 by Adani Global Pte (AGPTE), a Singapore-based step-down subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL).
AERCL's registration and business operations
AERCL was registered under the rules of the Company Law of the People's Republic of China on September 2, 2024. However, it is important to note that AERCL has not yet begun its business operations. This information was disclosed in a regulatory filing by Adani Enterprises, which houses several businesses within the conglomerate including mining, roads, airports, data center and water infrastructure sectors.
Adani Group's recent expansion into Kenya
The formation of AERCL follows closely on the heels of another significant move by the Adani Group. Just days prior, AEL established a subsidiary in Kenya, Airports Infrastructure PLC (AIP). The primary aim of this venture is to "take over, operate, maintain, develop, design, construct, upgrade, modernize and manage the airports" in Kenya. This development is part of Adani Group's strategy to expand its airport operations beyond India.
Adani Group's investment proposal for Kenyan airport
The Adani Group has reportedly submitted a proposal to the Kenyan government, outlining plans to invest in the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi. The group aims to invest $750 million by 2029 for a new terminal and taxiway system, and an additional $92 million by 2035 for further improvements. If approved, JKIA would become Adani's first airport outside of India.
