Aaykar Setu: Pay taxes, apply for PAN using FinMin's app
FinMin Arun Jaitley launched 'Aaykar Setu', an app to bridge the gap between a taxpayer and the Income Tax department. This new taxpayer service module will allow the I-T department to directly interact with the taxpayers and provide the useful information on tax services. It will also assist users in linking their Aadhaar with PAN card. Here's all about it.
How will it help taxpayers?
The app 'Aaykar Setu' is available on Android. Once downloaded, taxpayers can use it to track TDS (tax deducted at source), pay their outstanding taxes and also to apply for permanent account number (PAN). Open communication and providing useful tax information at the fingertips of taxpayers will be the main objectives of this initiative, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.
Making things easier for taxpayers
FinMin Arun Jaitley mentioned that this app allows taxpayers to do the bulk of their taxation work while sitting at their homes. This effort marks an important step for CBDT in using technology as a tool to cater to citizens. Facilities like tax tools, live chat and important links to various processes will now be available under a single roof.
How to get this app?
'Aaykar Setu' is the first app to be launched by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Taxpayers can download this app by giving a missed call to this number - 7306525252. "The app reduces the physical interface between assessing officer (AO) and assessees. Physical interface has many unintended consequences - it is time-consuming and can lead to improprieties," FinMin Jaitley said.
