Aadhaar-based MicroATMs offer card-less, PIN-less banking
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched Aadhaar-based MicroATMs to facilitate card-less and PIN-less monetary transactions in the country. With MicroATMs, users can access basic banking services solely through their Aadhaar number. This primarily allows India's rural populace to seamlessly carry out digital transactions without having to own a credit or debit card.
MicroATMs are within the reach of 59 crore individuals
Aadhaar-based MicroATM is a complete, end-to-end payment solution
Aadhaar-based MicroATMs are basically modified POS (point-of-sales) machines that a bank representative (or bank MITR) carries to enable doorstep banking services. Through it, customers can perform basic financial transactions by only using their 12-digit unique Aadhaar number. In case of inter-bank transactions, they also have to provide their Bank Identification Number. The machine scans fingerprint or iris as identity proof.
Payments done using MicroATMs are authorized by banks
Currently, over 4 lakh Aadhaar-based MicroATMs are operational across the country. They support financial transactions like cash deposit, cash withdrawal, funds transfer, and balance inquiry. Further, there is no service charge involved in using MicroATMs to carry out bank account transactions. Unlike an ATM, the cash-out/cash-in functions in the MicroATM are performed by an operator.
