FPIs invest nearly ₹27,860 crore in Indian equities this September
What's the story
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have made a significant return to the Indian market this September, by investing a substantial ₹27,856 crore in equities.
This resurgence follows a period of moderation and is attributed to both domestic and global influences.
After the election-related uncertainties subsided and stability was restored in the Indian market, FPIs were consistent buyers during June and July.
Investment details
Net investment stands over ₹53,000 crore
Data from the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) reveals that net investment as of September 13 stands at ₹53,007 crore. This figure includes debt, hybrid, debt-VRR and equities. However, total investment in debt markets has seen a slight decline to ₹7,525 crore so far this month.
Pattern
Investment trend in Indian market
The FPIs's investment pattern in the Indian market has been somewhat inconsistent.
They were net sellers in August, withdrawing ₹16,469 crore from the Indian capital markets (equity and debt).
However, they turned net buyers in September with a significant inflow of funds.
This shift is seen as a positive sign for the health and attractiveness of India's financial market to foreign investors.
