New Mercedez-Benz GLS unveiled at New York Auto Show 2019
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its third-generation GLS SUV at the New York International Auto Show 2019. The 7-seater SUV comes with a bunch of cosmetic changes and feature upgrades including the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driving assistance system. With its production taking place in Alabama, USA, the new GLS is expected to go on sale by the end of 2019. Here's our roundup.
Mercedes-Benz GLS: At a glance
The third-generation GLS gets a bold chrome-finished octagonal grille, side air vents, chrome-plated under guard, and a long bonnet with two power domes. It also offers smoked headlamps, LED taillamps, adjustable LED headlights, tinted power windows, fog lights, rain sensing wipers as well as washer and defogger for the rear windows. With a wheelbase of 3,075mm, it runs on radical tubeless alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin
The new Mercedes-Benz GLS comes with a multi-function power steering wheel, 5-zone automatic climate control, and electronically adjustable heated seats. Also, third-row seats can be electronically folded to increase the boot space. Further, it features a large touchscreen display comprising an infotainment system and instrument cluster. The 12.3-inch MBUX infotainment panel comes with optional 11.6-inch touchscreen units for rear seats.
Under the hood
The Mercedes-Benz GLS will be offered in four engine options. The petrol model comes with six and eight-cylinder engines that have EQ Boost and integrated starter-generator. On the other hand, the diesel model comes with two six-cylinder in-line OMS 656 engines, one of which is touted to make a maximum power of 330bhp and a peak torque of 700Nm.
New GLS comes with latest edition of driving assistance system
The new Mercedes-Benz offers the latest edition of driving assistance system. It will be assisted by the company's 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system as well as, AIRMATIC air suspension system with Adaptive Damping System Plus.
On the road
The new GLS comes with power door locks, central locking, parking sensors, crash sensors, and anti-theft device. The SUV packs ABS+EBD, traction control, adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, six airbags as well as child locks for the doors. Moreover, it comes with an additional carwash function which enables the vehicle to prepare itself for a wash with just a single button press.
