Bengaluru: Woman kidnaps mother, gets her declared 'insane' for property
A man filed a petition in the Karnataka high court stating that his aunt, who has been missing since February 5, has been abducted by her daughter and kept at a mental hospital forcibly. The HC then asked the police on February 14 to produce the woman before the judges' panel. Two days later, the woman appeared and narrated her pitiable ordeal in court.
Woman narrated her ordeal at hearing held behind closed doors
In the hearing that was held behind closed doors, the woman said that she had come to the city with her son and daughter 30 years ago after her husband deserted them. She worked in real estate and earned lots of money. She also bought several properties, but her daughter is trying to snatch them and is aided by an unknown man, she said.
Her daughter bribed doctor to term her insane
But her daughter's cruelty reportedly didn't end at just that. She said her daughter then took her forcibly to a mental hospital and bribed the doctor to certify her as insane. Two of her properties had already been illegally transferred to her daughter, she said. The court recognized she was suffering from trauma and asked police to take her to NIMHANS for a check-up.
'Woman's life in danger, yet police silent about it'
The nephew also alleged that Amruthahalli police had refused to lodge a complaint. As cops didn't make much progress, the court said, "This is indeed a sorry state of affairs where the life of a woman is in danger, yet the police have maintained a studied silence over it." HC also directed police protection for the woman, who claimed threat to her life.
