Teaching Kannada becomes compulsory in all Karnataka schools
After setting aside 5% jobs for state civil services, for aspirants who studied Kannada in school, Karnataka government has now made teaching Kannada compulsory in all schools. Students will also be required to sing Naada Geethe, the state anthem. The circular regarding the same will be issued once singing pattern is finalized by Department of Kannada and Culture. Fake stamp paper convict gets special treatment in Bengaluru prison

Railway Ministry approves suburban railway network for Bengaluru
In a bid to address city's traffic woes, Ministry of Railways finally gave its assent to suburban railway system for Bengaluru. The Railway Board also agreed to the proposal of conversion of 15 existing short-distance passenger trains into Mainline Multiple Electric Units. This suburban rail project will be built on a cost-sharing basis, the cost ratio being 80:20 between Karnataka and railway ministry.
Miscreants attack 2 men near Cantonment railway station
Unidentified assailants attacked two men with blunt objects near Cantonment railway station in the aftermath of tension that gripped the area when 200-odd students of madrasas travelling in a train were detained on the suspicion of being trafficked. The two men are undergoing treatment in hospital but are stable. A case has been registered by police.
PU students yet to get original marksheets in Bengaluru
Two months have passed since second-year PU examination results were declared, but department of pre-university education is yet to give original marksheets to students and is instead handing out provisional marksheets. This has become troublesome for students who secured admission in other universities and they have been asked for original marksheets. Director of DPUE, Shikha said, "original marksheets will be available from July 20."
Bengaluru's Shivajinagar Bus Stand to undergo major redesign
Bengaluru authorities are all set to revamp Shivajinagar Bus Stand under Smart City project. "There is a building adjacent to BMTC bus stand in Shivajinagar. That will be brought down and playground will be revitalised and there will also be commercial spaces that will be constructed," project planner said. The Metro Station, which will soon come at Shivajinagar, will be connected to bus stand.
