Moved by the response at Indira canteens: Karnataka Minister
After recording a footfall of nearly 15 lakh at Indira Canteens within only three weeks, Karnataka Government has decided to start such canteens in seven government hospitals across in Bengaluru. Karnataka Food & Civil Supplies Minister UT Khader said the number of food plates served at each existing canteen would be increased from 900 to 1500 (500 each for breakfast, lunch, & dinner).
Breakfast, dinner at Rs. 5, 10 at Bengaluru's Indira Canteens
The Karnataka government's ambitious Indira Canteens, which will offer breakfast for Rs. 5 and dinner for Rs. 10, was inaugurated on 16th August. On opening day, lunch and dinner was free for all. August 15 was the deadline to set up 198 canteens in all wards, but several controversies delayed the project. Only 101 canteens have started services as of now.
What are the future plans?
"We have decided to increase the number of plates from 900 to 1,500 (500 each for breakfast, lunch and dinner) per day in each canteen," said BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad.
