India's first smokeless village Vyachakurahalli enters Limca Book of Records
Vyachakurahalli, India's first "smokeless village", in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district has made it to the Limca Book of Records-2017! After Vyachakurahalli entirely switched to LPG from conventional fuel, Union Petroleum Ministry declared it as India's first smokeless village in Dec'15. Indian Oil's Karnataka Head, S Varadachari, said the entry would encourage them to continue their endeavor in improving rural lives under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Smokeless village involves various factors: Varadachari
S Varadachari said declaring a "smokeless village" involves a lot of steps. It includes assessing the population, identifying the number of BPL families, analyzing villagers' economic conditions, estimating the number of households, including those using LPG, and converting households to LPG through door-to-door campaigns and physical demonstrations. He added, "Villagers were also educated about safe use of LPG with demonstrations."

On entering into Limca Book of Records, Varadachari said: "All these efforts were done with the active involvement and participation of the local Panchayat leaders, block level officers, local MLAs or MPs, etc. Indian Oil LPG distributors were also committed and dedicated towards this cause."
