Bengaluru: 4-year-old girl allegedly raped dies at St John's Hospital
A four-year-old girl, allegedly raped and brutally assaulted, has succumbed to her injuries at St John's Hospital in Bengaluru. Medical reports suggest the child's private parts were cut with a sharp object; she was also not fed for days after the heinous assault. Bengaluru child rape case: Assault took place a week ago
Police suspect an infection resulted by the assault caused the girl's death; post-mortem report is pending. The girl's mother, a domestic help, left her two months ago in the care of Chandana, whom she knew. But Chandana mistreated her; she was severely ill, malnourished and even had stomach ulcers. Mallikarjuna, Chandana's alleged lover, is believed to have repeatedly raped the girl in Chandana's absence.

Fake Biocon offer letters: Company complaints against unidentified miscreants
Bengaluru-based biopharmaceutical company Biocon registered a CID complaint against unidentified "con-men" who allegedly created fake email-IDs, shawjohn379@gmail.com and john@bioconlimited.org, in the company Vice-Chairman's John Shaw's name. Since 11 July, the miscreants issued offer letters to job aspirants for money. Biocon learned about the incident after victims approached them for job appointment. Bengaluru CID Inspector General of Police, Chandrasekhar, said an investigation is underway.
Karnataka: Banned liquor stores to restart operations next week
After the Supreme Court clarified liquor stores on national-highways under municipal areas can operate, Karnataka government decided to renew the licenses of 90% of the state's liquor businesses. They were shut since 30 June after SC directed that stores within 500m of highways be shut. Of Karnataka's 10,060 liquor business, about 736 operate in Bengaluru. Most shops will start operating in the next week.
